Five Common Mistakes That You Need To Avoid When Dating Online

Dating online is a great way to search for a life partner and the Internet is a great platform for romance. However, the Internet is not the same as the real world.

You are unable to see the person with whom you are 'talking' with and hence you would not be able to judge him/her by their facial expressions and body language. All that you have is your dialogue. All the expressions and impression would come from that dialogue.

Remember To Watch Out For The Potholes On This Highway

Most people fall in love with the online dating because it is so much fun. There is no need to dress up, no choosing fancy restaurants or coffee shops to go to, no pretence.

There is only unadulterated fun and the great possibility that you might find out there the right person for you. It looks like a fairy tale - and most it ends like one. However, often people inadvertently commit mistakes that short circuits the relationship.

Cut and paste messages - this is a mistake usually committed by men. They think that just using templates and sending a lot of messages would bring more replies.

Unfortunately, this is not so. Women usually catch immediately that the message was a general one and to them this would seem frivolous and unbecoming. To attract a woman, the message should be personal and referring closely to her profile.

Negative comments - even if you have experienced the worst heartbreaks, or had some nasty experiences before do not use any negative comments in your first few messages.

Once you get to know the person, you could share your inner feeling. Initially, it should be only about the positive things you look out for in life and your supposed partner.

Avoid the mention of sex - you want to get a partner not a sleazy one night stand. Unless you are a member of an adult dating site where people are out to find specifically sexual partners - do not mention sex in your initial messages.

Contrary to common belief, mention of sex is not attractive but repulsive. This is a definitely a turn-off for both men and women who are looking for serious relationships.

Be modest - most people think that the more you blow your trumpet, the better impression you make.

While it is true that you need to list your plus points to your advantage, you should endeavor to highlight these in modest overtones. You should not come across as pompous, conceited o even worse a lair.

Income is not to be discussed - the first messages are for light flirting, flattering and introducing. Do not use these as interview dialogues. Do not give information about your income, nor ask about it.

This shows you as either an opportunist or one who wants to buy attention - so it is better avoided.

For men mentioning a high income would bring the danger of attracting the wrong women; and for women asking about it would seem that they are only looking for security.

You produce a great point in your own final paragraph. We couldn’t agree more together with your points. In today’s modern world, your approach to this issue is lacking in today’s kids. We need to ensure that our kids find out more on this topic so we never lose our ways.
