How To Avoid Getting Emotionally Hurt In Your Dating Experience
Emotions are an integral part of every human relationship and even more so in a dating experience. It is totally human to get emotionally hurt in a relationship. It is in our hands to see that these emotions do not wreck havoc in our relationships.
Men and woman react differently to emotions. The overwhelming desire to be loved makes people jump into relationships only to be jilted in love later When either of them feels challenged, he or she focuses on being right and in the process forgets to be loving. There are few aspects in a dating experience where the man and woman can avoid getting emotionally hurt if they follow certain guidelines.
Avoid Fights:
Individuals instinctively began to argue when a conversation between them turns sour one of them becomes unsupportive and unloving. They take on an offensive stance. They make their partner appear wrong and blame them, criticize them and judge them. They end up fighting and express lots of anger.
The inner motive seems to be to intimidate their partner into loving them. Eventually they assume they have won, but in reality they have lost So in order to avoid getting emotionally hurt, it is better to express your differences in a dating experience without arguing. Both the partners must understand each other’s needs.
Understanding and acceptance:
When a man listens with empathy to a woman without any judgement, she feels understood and heard. An understanding attitude helps to validate what is being communicated. When a woman receives a man without trying to rectify him, he feels accepted. An accepting attitude affirms that he is being accepted. So your dating experience will be great if both of you try to find solutions.
Respect and appreciation:
When a woman’s needs are met by a man’s commitment to support and fulfill her needs, she feels adored and special. Similarly a man too has the primary need to feel a woman’s admiration for him. He feels admired when a woman is amazed by his talents and characteristics like honesty, humor, love, kindness.
Communicate difficult feelings:
It is difficult to communicate when we are angry, disappointed or frustrated. In a dating experience both the partners lose their feelings of trust, appreciation, caring and respect
when negative emotions come up. In those moments, talking turns to fighting and both the partners get emotionally hurt.
During these moments, both the partners blame each other and become resentful. They become critical of each other. Instead of being vulnerable and sensitive, both the partners assume a negative attitude.
Writing letters to express your feelings allows both of them to listen to their own feelings. Writing down our negative feelings makes us aware of how unloving we may sound. Writing is more powerful than verbally communicating ill feelings and thus avoids emotional turmoil.
Hence in a dating experience, both the partners must avoid treating each other like threatening opponents. Both must learn that their emotions serve as hints to restore their self worth than as a hint to fight back.
